Is there anything new about lean?
Or did we just forget some basics along the way?
If I watched the dealers along the main street adapt and change every day to what was needed – watching there customers, asking them and adapting accordingly.
Talking to the greengrocer I travelled with who sells to his b2b customers and for whom it is totallY normal to listen to his different customers and adapt accordingly.
The turks want a different type of mint and they need it in bigger portions – done.
The chefs look for expeptionally good parsley and then when they get it appreciate to be able to buy everything else they need from him as well. That is all just listening and figuring out the whys.
The more one thinks about it the more sad it becomes that something like lean is hyped so much. Listening and checking if one is right and then adapting. Sounds like common sense really.
But if the colourful packaging of the lean hype helps and we get better experieces as customers again – why not.
